Calcutta High Court Suggests NIA Probe for Beldanga Violence

The Calcutta High Court has expressed concern over repeated violence in Beldanga, Murshidabad.

The court suggested that the central government can order an NIA probe if needed.

It also directed the West Bengal government to use the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) effectively and submit a report on steps taken to maintain law and order.

The violence was triggered by the death of a migrant worker and included vandalism, rail blockades, and attacks on journalists.

Petitioners alleged that the violence was pre-planned, while the state government claimed it acted promptly and restored normalcy.

The court noted that the situation is deeply worrying and directed the state to use intelligence inputs proactively to prevent further violence.

The matter will be heard again after four weeks.
