US Congressman Proposes Bill to Freeze All Immigration Amidst Shifting H-1B Stance
A politician named Chip Roy wants to stop all new people from coming to the U.S. for a while.
He thinks this is necessary to make big changes to how the country handles who can come in and how it stays safe.
He specifically wants to change rules about bringing family members over, get rid of certain work visas called H-1B, and check if people coming in agree with American values, not laws like Sharia.
He's worried about groups not fitting into American society.
This idea comes as the President, Donald Trump, recently said the U.S. needs more skilled workers from other countries, which is a bit different from Mr. Roy's plan.
Republican Congressman Chip Roy plans to introduce a bill for a total freeze on U.S. immigration.
The freeze would remain in effect until specific immigration and national security reforms are achieved.
Roy cited concerns about 'Islamism' and communities unwilling to integrate into American society.
The bill aims to reform chain migration, end H-1B visas, address birthright citizenship, and vet immigrants for adherence to Sharia law.
The announcement follows the Trump administration's overhaul of the H-1B visa petition process, including a $100,000 fee, and President Trump's recent comments about needing foreign talent.
