27 Rajput Prepared to Reattempt Perilous Kargil Peak Assault

27 Rajput Prepared to Reattempt Perilous Kargil Peak Assault

During the Kargil War, 27 Rajput soldiers tried to attack an enemy-held mountain feature.

Their first attempt on June 25 had to be stopped because the climb was extremely difficult.

The soldiers returned safely and discussed how to try again.

Major Navdeep Singh Cheema was chosen to lead the next assault.

Captain Shyamal Sinha, an experienced mountaineer, decided to join the assault team.

The battalion wanted to move within 24 to 48 hours so the enemy would not expect the plan.

The soldiers rested on June 26 because the climb had exhausted them.

They planned to try again on June 27.

Some soldiers also felt that the date was meaningful because their unit was called 27 Rajput.
