Balochistan Declares August 11 As Independence Day; History Explained

Some people in a region called Balochistan believe their land should be its own country.

They chose August 11 as what they call Balochistan's Independence Day.

That date is special because of something that happened long ago in 1947.

When British colonial rule ended in that part of the world, the leader of a place called Kalat said it was independent.

A few months later, in March 1948, that same leader signed an agreement to join Pakistan.

Pakistan says the agreement was legal and final, so Balochistan is an integral part of the country.

But many Baloch people say the leader was forced to sign it.

They believe August 11, 1947 is the true day of independence.

Every year on that day, people hold rallies and public meetings to remember this history.

Some Baloch groups ask for more rights, while others want a separate country.
