Assam Reports Significant Decline in Cyber Crime Cases in 2023
Imagine computers and phones as new toys.
Sometimes, people use these toys in bad ways, like stealing information or tricking others online.
In Assam, a place in India, fewer people have been doing these bad online things in 2023 compared to 2022.
Last year, only 909 bad online incidents happened, which is much less than the 1733 that happened the year before.
This means Assam is getting better at stopping these online crimes.
Even though there were still many arrests, the total number of bad online activities went down a lot.
Across all of India, however, more online bad things happened in 2023 than in 2022.
Assam is now ranked 13th for these crimes, which is better than its 9th place ranking before.
Assam reported 909 cyber crime cases in 2023, a decrease of over 47% from 1,733 cases in 2022.
A total of 903 individuals were arrested and 659 were charge-sheeted in Assam for cyber crimes in 2023.
Assam's national ranking for cyber crime cases improved from 9th in 2022 to 13th in 2023.
Nationally, cyber crime cases increased by over 31% in 2023, reaching 86,420 cases.
In contrast to Assam's decline, some northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Tripura saw an increase in cyber crime cases in 2023.
