SIR Process Defended Amid Opposition Criticism
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, which updates voter lists, has been defended by the Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal as constitutionally valid and based on principles set by B.R. Ambedkar.
The Congress Party, however, has criticized the process, alleging it is being used to manipulate electoral rolls and remove certain voters.
The Election Commission has announced that draft rolls for several states and union territories will be published on December 16.
In the Rajya Sabha, various MPs discussed electoral reforms, with some calling for limits on election expenditure and others supporting the SIR process.
The debate highlights differing views on the transparency and fairness of the electoral process.
