Thailand Tourist Tax Delayed Again, Now Expected by 2026
Thailand wanted to charge tourists a small fee to help pay for fixing up tourist spots and to give travelers some basic insurance in case they got hurt.
This fee was supposed to start in 2023.
But, it's tricky to figure out how to collect the money, especially when people buy plane tickets.
So, they've decided to wait and not charge the fee for now.
They think they might be able to start it by 2026.
This means tourists can still visit without this extra cost.
However, it's a good idea for travelers to still have their own travel insurance because the new fee isn't helping with that yet.
Thailand's planned tourist entry tax has been delayed again and is now expected to be implemented by 2026.
The proposed tax is 300 baht for air arrivals and 150 baht for land or sea arrivals.
The tax aims to fund tourism infrastructure improvements and provide basic insurance for foreign visitors.
Implementation has been postponed due to challenges integrating the tax into airline ticketing systems and concerns about deterring tourists.
Travelers are advised to purchase comprehensive travel insurance independently as the planned tax-funded coverage is not yet active.
