Power Couples in Haryana and Punjab Bureaucracy
In Haryana and Punjab, many officers from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) are married to each other.
There are at least 66 such couples.
Some officers have even changed their work locations to be with their spouses.
This is allowed by the rules, but it has led to discussions about how it affects the way the government works.
Some couples are very senior and hold important positions, while others are younger and have recently moved to be together.
This trend is seen in both Haryana and Punjab, with examples of couples working in the same districts or departments.
At least 66 IAS and IPS officers in Haryana and Punjab are married to each other.
Inter-cadre transfers are permitted under the All India Services (Cadre) Rules for family unity.
Senior couples like Navdeep Singh and Kala Ramachandran in Haryana and Tejveer Singh and Jaspreet Kaur in Punjab hold key positions.
Younger officers such as Shantanu Sharma and Rahul Modi have recently transferred cadres to join their spouses.
Cross-service marriages, like Pankaj Nain (IPS) and Sonal Goel (IAS), are also notable.
