Meta Ordered to Pay $567 Million for Harming Children

A big company called Meta owns apps like Facebook and Instagram that many kids use.

A judge in the state of New Mexico said Meta was not keeping children safe.

The judge said the apps are designed to keep kids using them for very long hours.

This can make children feel stressed, sad, and even sick.

The judge ordered Meta to pay a very large fine of $567 million.

That money will go into a fund to help teenagers with mental health.

Meta also has to make changes, like limiting how long teens can use the apps.

It must stop adults from contacting kids they do not know on the apps.

Other countries and many families are also worried that these apps are unsafe for children.
