Israeli Druze Leader Seeks US Security Guarantees for Syrian Minorities
A leader from the Druze community in Israel, Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, is asking the United States to help protect the Druze people in Syria.
The Druze are a small group with their own beliefs, and they live in countries like Syria, Israel, and Lebanon.
In July, there were big fights between the Druze and another group called the Bedouin in a place called Sweida.
Many people were hurt, and the fighting made it hard for the two groups to live together.
The Syrian government tried to stop the fighting, but it made things worse.
Israel also got involved to help the Druze.
Now, the Druze leaders want the U.S. to make sure they are safe and have the right to decide things for themselves.
They also want to rebuild trust and let people go back to their homes.
Israeli Druze leader Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif urged the U.S. to guarantee the security of the Druze community in Syria.
The request comes in the wake of violent clashes in July between Druze and Bedouin residents in Sweida, Syria.
The violence escalated when government forces intervened, leading to widespread reports of abuses and a humanitarian crisis.
Israel attacked government forces to protect the Druze and keep its borders free from militants.
Druze leaders are calling for self-determination, safety for all minorities, and the rebuilding of trust in the region.
