Karnataka High Court Directs Government to Expand Farm Produce Centers
The Karnataka High Court told the government to set up enough places where farmers can sell their crops at a guaranteed minimum price.
A group of farmers asked the court to make this happen all year long.
The court agreed that the government should consider where farms are and how much food is grown to decide where these places should be.
They also said the government needs to make sure there's enough space to store the crops.
The court wants at least one place in each area to be open for a couple of months longer than usual, so farmers don't have to sell their crops for less money.
The government can also keep these places open longer if needed, depending on how much food is grown.
Karnataka High Court directed the state government to ensure sufficient farm produce procurement centers.
The directive came in response to a PIL filed by Rait Sena Karnataka.
The organization requested year-round operation of procurement centers at minimum support prices (MSPs).
The court stated that the number and location of centers depend on various factors.
The government must establish procurement centers, extending their operation beyond the standard period.
