TRAI Tightens Spam Rules With AI Detection And Appeals

TRAI has made rules stricter to reduce unwanted calls and messages.

Telecom companies will use artificial intelligence to find phone numbers that probably send spam.

If five or more numbers linked to one sender are flagged within 10 days, the company can investigate further.

Repeat offenders may have their customer information checked again or their services restricted.

They could eventually be disconnected.

Automated calls, robocalls, prerecorded calls, and artificial-voice calls must be declared to telecom companies beforehand.

Undeclared automated calls can be treated as unwanted commercial communication.

Some unauthorised automated calls may cost up to five paise per minute.

People can appeal decisions about spam complaints within 15 days through several available channels.
