Maoist Taraka's Surrender Leads to Fall of 2 Rebel Strongholds

A high-ranking woman rebel named Taraka, whose husband was a very important leader with a large reward on his head, gave up.

After she surrendered, two strong bases for the rebels in the forests of Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra weakened.

This led to many other rebels also surrendering.

Taraka's husband, Bhupathi, eventually surrendered too, along with many others.

The police used Taraka to convince Bhupathi to surrender by promising they could live together.

A leader named Rupesh also encouraged rebels to stop fighting.

In total, hundreds of rebels surrendered, weakening the rebel groups in these forest areas significantly.

The police see this as a major success in reducing rebel activity.
