Bombay High Court Rejects PIL for Lyceum as Mediation Centre
The Bombay High Court said no to a request to use an old court building in Goa called Lyceum as a place for solving disputes.
The people who asked for this wanted to keep the old building for court work because it's historic and has nice courtrooms.
But the government said they need the space for their offices.
The court agreed with the government and said the building is too big to use just for solving disputes.
They also said there are already places for this in Maharashtra.
The court also noted that the government promised to keep the building's special look and find another place for a dispute-solving centre.
The Bombay High Court rejected a PIL to use the Lyceum complex in Goa as a mediation and arbitration centre.
The Goa government assured the court it would preserve the architectural design of the Lyceum buildings.
The petitioners argued that the complex should be used for judicial purposes due to its historical significance and well-furnished courtrooms.
The Goa Advocate General opposed the PIL, stating that the complex was needed for government offices and that a separate piece of land would be identified for a mediation centre.
The high court remarked that the PIL seemed to be more in the personal interest of the petitioners than in public interest and dismissed the plea.
