Trump Floats ‘Lake America’ Amid Escalating US-Canada Trade War

Donald Trump suggested giving Lake Ontario a new name: “Lake America.”

He made the proposal while the United States and Canada were arguing about trade.

The United States placed large taxes, called tariffs, on some Canadian goods.

Trump also threatened more tariffs on cars, car parts and steel from Canada.

Canada was preparing ways to help workers and businesses affected by the tariffs.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said the United States was treating Canada like a subsidiary.

Businesses say the two countries need each other because their supply chains are closely connected.

A long trade fight could make some products more expensive and hurt families and companies in both countries.
