Delhi tribunal awards Rs 48.68 lakh to disabled woman
A woman named Saraswati was walking near Kalkaji Temple in Delhi when a speeding tempo hit her.
She got very badly hurt and had to have her left leg cut off below the knee.
The court said the tempo's insurance company had to pay her Rs 48.68 lakh because she can't work as well as before.
The insurance company first offered less money, but the court said that wasn't enough.
The money is to help her with her medical bills and because she can't earn as much as she used to.
Saraswati was hit by a government tempo in July 2024, resulting in the amputation of her left leg below the knee.
The Delhi Motor Accident Claims Tribunal awarded her Rs 48.68 lakh in compensation for 60% permanent disability.
The insurance company initially offered Rs 18.52 lakh, which was deemed insufficient by the tribunal.
The tribunal considered future expenses for an artificial limb and loss of future income in the compensation.
The insurer, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company Ltd., was directed to deposit the awarded amount.
