Dhenkanal Mangoes Exported to Europe Boosts Farmers' Income
Imagine farmers in Dhenkanal growing special mangoes called Amrapali.
They learned how to make these mangoes good enough to sell to other countries like England and Italy!
They learned to pick and pack the mangoes the right way, so they can sell them for a much better price.
The government and some helpers provided training and even helped with the cost of packaging.
Now, these farmers earn about ten times more money from selling mangoes to these foreign countries than they used to earn locally.
They are expected to export about 50 tons of mangoes this year.
Around 10 metric tons of Amrapali mangoes were exported to European markets including the UK and Italy.
Over 100 women farmers in Dhenkanal were trained on export standards.
Exports are expected to transform local livelihoods through global trade.
Farmers are earning ten times more by exporting mangoes.
Capacity-building was provided by APEDA and Grant Thornton Bharat.
