Vijayawada Intensifies Crackdown on Single-Use Plastic
In Vijayawada, India, the city government is taking strong action against the use of single-use plastics.
On a recent Tuesday, 48 special teams checked many places like markets and shops to make sure no one is using or selling banned plastic items.
They found and took away 640.9 kg of illegal plastic and fined the traders a total of ₹5,56,350.
The officials warned that using these plastics is against the law and can lead to the cancellation of trade licenses.
They also explained that thin plastics less than 120 microns thick cause problems like clogging drains and polluting the land.
The city is committed to becoming plastic-free and will keep doing surprise checks to make sure everyone follows the rules.
They encourage people to use eco-friendly options like cloth and jute bags instead of plastic.
48 special enforcement teams conducted surprise inspections across three municipal circles in Vijayawada.
640.9 kg of banned single-use plastic items were seized, and penalties totaling ₹5,56,350 were imposed on violators.
Dr. Gopal Naik warned that the manufacture, storage, sale, and use of single-use plastic are illegal and can lead to license cancellation.
