Villagers Detain Officials over Tree Felling Protest
In Manala village, people were upset because someone cut down a lot of trees.
They think the forest officials helped this happen, or at least knew about it.
On Saturday, villagers held the forest officials at the local government office to show their anger.
They also want those responsible for cutting down the trees to be arrested.
The villagers are worried because some people have already taken over parts of the forest land.
The police came to help, and they are working with the villagers to protect the forest.
The police said that the trees were cut by some tribals who were digging wells and laying pipelines.
Now, the police are working with the forest department to replant trees.
Villagers in Manala village detained forest officials to protest tree felling.
The villagers accused forest officials of being involved in the deforestation.
The tree felling and attempted land encroachment occurred on Friday night.
Protesters demanded the arrest of those responsible and protection of the forest land.
Police intervened and the officials were released, with assurances of forest protection.
