India's Solar Exports Drop in September
India's solar panel exports to the US dropped a lot in September because of new taxes and checks by the US.
Earlier this year, India was sending many solar panels to the US because US companies didn't want panels from China.
But now, the US is putting a 50% tax on Indian panels and checking if some panels are actually made in China but sent from India.
This has made Indian companies send fewer panels to the US.
Some Indian companies are now making more parts for panels instead of full panels to avoid too much supply in India.
Experts think smaller companies might have a hard time, but bigger companies that make all parts of the panel might do better.
India's solar module exports to the US fell to $80 million in September 2025 from $134 million in August 2025 due to US tariffs and investigations.
The US imposed a 50% tariff on Indian solar modules and is investigating whether Chinese-made components are being shipped from India.
India's approved solar module manufacturing capacity is 110 GW and is expected to reach 165 GW by March 2027.
The slowdown in exports has raised concerns about oversupply in the domestic market, where annual solar installations are below the 44–45 GW needed to meet 2030 renewable targets.
Some Indian companies are reducing module production and increasing cell and wafer production to avoid future price wars and overcapacity.
