ED Flags Rs 22 Crore as Crime Proceeds from Goa Nightclub
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in India has found that a nightclub in Goa, called Birch by Romeo Lane, made Rs 22 crore over two years.
The ED thinks this money is from illegal activities because the club didn't have the right permits and used fake documents.
A big fire at the club last year killed 25 people and hurt 50 more.
The ED also found that money from the club was sent to personal accounts and even abroad.
The owners of the club, including the Luthra brothers, are in trouble with the police.
Some people who helped the club get illegal permits have also been arrested.
The ED is still looking into how the money was moved around and if there was any corruption involved.
ED suspects Rs 22 crore revenue from Goa nightclub as proceeds of crime due to lack of statutory licenses.
Nightclub operated with forged documents and without mandatory approvals.
Funds were diverted to personal accounts and other group entities.
Bank accounts frozen under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Investigation ongoing into possible corruption and foreign remittances.
