India Approves Pulses Mission and Hikes Rabi Crop MSPs
The Indian government has approved a new plan to grow more lentils and beans (pulses) within the country.
This program will cost about ₹11,440 crore over five years, starting in 2025.
The goal is to increase how much land is used for growing pulses and to produce 35 million tonnes by 2030-31.
The government is also raising the prices it will pay farmers for certain crops like wheat, barley, gram (chana), lentil (masur), mustard, and safflower.
This is meant to encourage farmers and ensure they get fair prices for their harvests.
Government agencies will buy pulses directly from farmers, and new processing units will be set up with subsidies to improve production and prices.
The Cabinet approved the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses with an investment of ₹11,440 crore.
The mission aims to increase pulse production to 35 million tonnes by 2030-31.
Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for Rabi crops, including wheat, chana, and mustard, have been increased.
The government will procure 29.7 million tonnes of Rabi crops at an estimated cost of ₹84,263 crore.
The mission will be implemented across 416 focused districts with new processing units.
