NHAI Plans Debt Reduction Below Rs 2 Lakh Crore
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) wants to pay off more of its debt this year.
They plan to pay back over Rs 35,000 crore before it's due, which will bring their total debt below Rs 2 lakh crore.
Last year, they paid back a huge amount, Rs 86,000 crore, and their debt has been going down since 2023.
They are also planning to make money by selling some of their highways to investors.
This will help them pay off more debt and save on interest.
They have already made some money this way and plan to do more in the future.
NHAI aims to repay over Rs 35,000 crore debt before maturity this financial year.
Total debt reduced to Rs 2.35 lakh crore through bond redemptions.
NHAI has not borrowed since 2023, reducing debt by around 32%.
Proactive negotiation with banks reduced interest burden by 80 basis points.
Plans to raise Rs 40,000 crore through monetisation of highway assets.
