Maharashtra Expands CMRF Aid to Maharashtrian Groups Outside State
The Maharashtra government has decided that the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) can now be used to help Maharashtrian organizations working outside the state.
Before, the fund could only help groups within Maharashtra and some border villages.
The chief minister has the power to approve this help and can change the rules if needed.
The CMRF was started in 1967 to help during disasters, accidents, and medical treatments.
It recently got approval to accept donations from foreign sources.
Maharashtra's CMRF can now aid Maharashtrian organizations outside the state.
The chief minister has full authority to approve such financial assistance.
Previously, the fund was limited to institutions within Maharashtra and 865 border villages.
The CMRF was established in 1967 and mainly used for disaster relief and medical aid.
The fund received FCRA approval in May 2025, allowing it to accept foreign donations.
