Japan's Last Pandas Return to China
Japan's last two pandas, Lei Lei and Xiao Xiao, left Tokyo for China on Tuesday.
This is the first time in 50 years that Japan won't have any pandas.
Many people in Japan were sad to see them go, as they had grown attached to the pandas since they were born in 2021.
The pandas' departure comes after a diplomatic disagreement between Japan and China.
A survey showed that most people in Japan don't want the government to negotiate for new pandas.
The pandas' mother, Shin Shin, was returned to China earlier this year due to health issues.
China has also been discouraging its people from traveling to Japan and limiting some exports.
However, experts say the pandas' departure might not be purely political and could change if relations improve.
The pandas arrived in Sichuan province on Wednesday and will be in quarantine at a research center.
