MCD Evicts 300 Illegal Hawkers at Anand Vihar
The MCD in Delhi recently removed around 300 illegal hawkers and their stalls near Anand Vihar transport hub.
These hawkers were causing problems by blocking the roads and sidewalks, making it hard for people to walk and for buses and trains to run smoothly.
The MCD used big machines and had many workers to clear these stalls.
They said they will keep watching the area to make sure the hawkers don't come back.
The court also asked the MCD to make a plan to make the area better and submit it by March 10.
The court had been dealing with this issue since 2016 and had given some protection to a few vendors, but over time, the number of protected vendors was reduced.
The court finally ordered the removal of all unauthorised structures after giving an eight-day notice.
MCD evicted around 300 illegal hawkers and unauthorised structures at Anand Vihar transport hub on January 30, 2026.
The eviction was carried out to comply with a Delhi High Court order to remove encroachments and ensure smooth pedestrian movement.
The operation involved 50 workers and used three excavators and one towing truck.
Only 105 recognised vendors who hold provisional certificates of vending will be allowed in designated locations.
