PGI breakthrough predicts puberty with 100% accuracy
Doctors at PGI in Chandigarh have found a way to predict when puberty will start with perfect accuracy.
This is important because some teens don't go through puberty at the usual time, which can make them feel different and left out.
The doctors have also developed a special test to spot this problem early.
They can now give these teens the right treatment to help them grow and develop like their friends.
This treatment can also help them have children when they are older.
The doctors say it's important for parents to watch for signs that puberty is delayed or happening too early, so they can get help for their kids.
PGI Chandigarh has developed a test called FSH-stimulated Inhibin B (FSH-iB) test that predicts puberty onset with 100% accuracy.
Delayed puberty is defined by the absence of puberty signs in girls by age 13 or in boys by age 14.
Delayed puberty can be caused by genetic traits, brain tumors, infections, injuries, or systemic illnesses.
Teens with delayed puberty may lack sexual characteristics, be shorter than peers, and have low bone density and infertility if untreated.
Hormone replacement therapy can effectively initiate or regulate puberty, allowing normal development and appropriate adult height and sexual maturity.
