Naini Jail Inmates Cultivate Vegetables, Empowering Themselves
In Naini Central Jail, inmates are now farmers!
They grow lots of vegetables, especially potatoes, on jail land.
The food is not only for the jail but also for other jails nearby.
Inmates get paid for their work.
Last year, they grew 1100 quintals of potatoes, but this year they harvested a record 1300 quintals.
The jail is now a farm and this is helping inmates learn new skills and have meaningful activities.
It is teaching them valuable skills that they can use when they leave prison.
Inmates at Naini Central Jail are actively engaged in vegetable cultivation, including potatoes.
The jail's produce supplies its needs and distributes to five other correctional facilities.
This year, inmates cultivated over 1,300 quintals of potatoes.
Inmates are compensated for their farming efforts.
The initiative provides training and prepares inmates for life after prison.
