My Son Sanctuary: Vietnam’s Ancient Champa Spiritual Heart

My Son Sanctuary: Vietnam’s Ancient Champa Spiritual Heart

My Son is an ancient group of temples in Vietnam.

It was important to the Champa kingdom for many centuries.

The site was both a spiritual center and a place connected to political power.

Its tall shrines were built from red bricks without mortar.

The shrines honoured the Hindu god Shiva, who was given the royal name Bhadresvara.

Writing found there uses Sanskrit and Cham.

These inscriptions tell about trade and connections across the sea.

My Son became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
