FCI Procures Ragi in Odisha to Support Food Distribution
Imagine the Food Corporation of India (FCI) buying a lot of Ragi, which is a type of grain, from farmers in Odisha.
This is the first time they have bought this much!
They bought the Ragi to give to people through the government's food program.
FCI wants to buy a lot more Ragi.
The government of Odisha also bought a lot of Ragi.
This is happening because 2023 was the International Year of Millet, so everyone is trying to grow more Ragi and other grains.
They're doing this to make sure people have healthy food.
FCI procured 2,642 metric tonnes of Ragi in Odisha for the first time.
The Ragi will be distributed through the public distribution system.
FCI aims to procure 40,000 MT of Ragi, with the remainder to be lifted from several districts.
The state government procured 75,000 metric tonnes of Ragi in the 2024-25 Kharif season.
