Abhishek Banerjee Alleges BJP Attack on Kolkata TMC Office
Abhishek Banerjee said people attacked a Trinamool Congress office in Kolkata before dawn.
He blamed workers from the Bharatiya Janata Party and said they had weapons.
He said people inside were hurt and that phones, furniture and electronic equipment were damaged or taken.
Banerjee also said the police did not respond for almost two hours after being contacted.
Kolkata Police said they detained six people and collected CCTV footage.
Police also said they were speaking with people who were inside the office.
The BJP denied taking part and said the incident was staged by the TMC.
The CCTV footage was described as purported, and its authenticity was not independently verified in one report.
The dispute happened while the office was already involved in a conflict over an allegedly unauthorised signboard.
Abhishek Banerjee alleged armed BJP workers attacked the TMC’s Camac Street office around 4:30 a.m., assaulting people and vandalising the premises.
He said phones were snatched, furniture was smashed, and electronic equipment—including a television, printer and air purifier—was damaged or removed.
Banerjee alleged Kolkata Police failed to respond for nearly two hours despite repeated calls and emails from TMC workers and lawyers.
Kolkata Police said six people were detained, CCTV footage was secured, a case was being initiated and statements were being recorded.
The BJP denied involvement and alleged the TMC staged the incident, amid a separate dispute over an allegedly unauthorised signboard at the office.
