Ranya Rao Granted Bail in Gold Smuggling Case
Kannada actress Ranya Rao, arrested for gold smuggling, was granted bail by a special court, along with her associate Tarun Raju.
However, Rao remains in jail under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities (COFEPOSA) Act, which means she might be held for a year without bail.
The court allowed bail because the chargesheet wasn't filed within the required time.
Rao's lawyer has challenged the COFEPOSA charges in court.
She was arrested in March after arriving from Dubai, with 14.2kg of gold seized from her.
