Republic Day 2026: Military Might and Cultural Heritage
Republic Day 2026 was a big celebration in India.
The main parade happened on Kartavya Path in New Delhi.
There were 30 special floats, called tableaux, showing different states and government departments.
These floats told stories about India's freedom movement, culture, and progress.
The Chief Guests were European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The parade also included marching contingents, bands, and an animal contingent with Bactrian camels, Zanskar ponies, Army dogs, and raptors.
These animals are important for the Indian Army because they can carry supplies in difficult and high-altitude areas where vehicles or aircraft cannot reach.
The parade showcased India's military might, including missiles, newly raised units, and indigenous weapon systems.
The enclosures along the parade route were named after Indian rivers and musical instruments.
The parade was commanded by Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar and featured a phased battle array format with aerial support.
The parade also honored the winners of the highest gallantry awards and included a military contingent from the European Union.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore a special turban that highlighted India's textile traditions and Operation Sindoor.
French President Emmanuel Macron shared a throwback selfie with PM Modi from the 2024 Republic Day, wishing India on this special day.
The Uttar Pradesh tableau presented the grandeur of Bundelkhand, blending ancient cultural legacy with modern progress.
The 77th Republic Day Parade featured 30 tableaux showcasing India's cultural heritage and progress, with themes like 'Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram' and 'Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.
The parade included marching contingents, bands, and an animal contingent with Bactrian camels, Zanskar ponies, Army dogs, and raptors, highlighting their role in the Indian Army.
Enclosures along Kartavya Path were named after Indian rivers and musical instruments, with no 'VVIP' labels used.
The parade showcased India's military might, including missiles, newly raised units, elite marching contingents, and indigenous weapon systems used during Operation Sindoor.
The parade was commanded by Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar and featured a phased battle array format with aerial support from indigenous Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter and Rudra.
