ICHR Director Discusses NCERT Partition Module Amidst Political Debate
The head of a historical research organization wants young people to learn about the Partition of India and Pakistan, a time when many people were forced to move and many died.
A new school lesson says that leaders like Jinnah, the Congress party, and Mountbatten were responsible for the Partition.
Someone from the current government agrees, saying that the Congress party was also responsible.
However, someone from the Congress party disagrees, saying the school lesson is wrong and blames a different group.
ICHR Director Upadhyay stated that the new generation should understand the truth about the Partition.
He mentioned that approximately 1.5 crore people were displaced and 12-15 lakh were killed during the Partition.
The new NCERT module assigns responsibility for the Partition to Jinnah, the Congress, and Mountbatten.
BJP spokesperson Poonawalla said the Partition was a compromise overseen by the Congress leadership.
