Chikitha Taniparthi Wins Gold After Bow-Fraud Setback, Secures Olympics Quota

Chikitha Taniparthi first tried archery with a small recreational bow brought by her uncle.

She became interested in the sport and practiced near her family’s farm in Sultanpur, Telangana.

Her family lost more than Rs 1.5 lakh in a fraud while trying to buy her first proper compound bow.

Her father then sold their rice harvester and borrowed money to support her training.

Chikitha practiced with homemade targets and later trained in Delhi and at the SAI Centre in Sonepat.

On Wednesday in Nagoya, she and Sahil Jadhav won compound mixed-team gold.

They beat South Korea in a shoot-off after the score was tied.

The victory secured India’s first quota for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
