Mumbai Mayor Debate Heats Up

A minister in Maharashtra, India, said that the next mayor of Mumbai should be a Hindu and a Marathi person.

He believes this is important because Mumbai is a very important city for the country's money and needs to be kept safe.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra criticized political parties for giving tickets to candidates with criminal backgrounds, stating it is 'absolutely wrong'.

The elections for the city's mayor and other municipal corporations are coming up on January 15, and this is a big deal for the political parties involved.

The city's civic body has been controlled by the Shiv Sena for a long time, but now there's a split in the party, making the elections even more important.

Uddhav Thackeray, leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), has joined hands with his cousin Raj Thackeray for the BMC election.

He says this alliance will not hurt his image as a leader who has softened the Shiv Sena's hardline perception.

Thackeray also criticized the BJP for raising religious and language issues in municipal elections.

Supriya Sule, an MP from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), dismissed rumors of a family rift and questioned the government about rising crime in Pune.

Sanjay Raut, another Shiv Sena (UBT) MP, criticized the ruling Mahayuti alliance for giving election tickets to relatives of gangsters.

Asaduddin Owaisi, leader of the AIMIM, called on the Muslim community to build its own political agency and support parties that promote Muslim leadership.

Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader, dismissed speculation about Supriya Sule joining the BJP and focused on winning the upcoming elections.
