Carney Backs Deeper Canada-EU Alliance Amid Trump Tariff Threat

Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney wants Canada and Europe to work more closely together.

He suggested cooperation on things such as energy, computer technology, defence and important minerals.

He said countries are less safe when they depend too heavily on one market or company.

Carney called this shared protection “collective resilience.”

He said the partnership is not meant to form a new power bloc against the United States.

US President Donald Trump warned that Europe could face heavy tariffs if he viewed the plan as hostile.

A French minister said the United States should not decide Europe’s political direction.

The exact rules for Canada’s possible special relationship with the European Union have not yet been settled.
