Street Children Sell Handmade Crafts at Christmas Market
Last Sunday, a special Christmas market was held in Southern Avenue, Calcutta.
Unlike regular markets, this one featured handmade crafts created entirely by street children and tribal girls.
The items included crochet mufflers, embroidered shirts, clay fridge magnets, and even hot chocolate and sandwiches.
The market was a big success, earning ₹85,000.
The crochet mufflers, priced at ₹999, sold out quickly, and the embroidered shirts were also very popular.
The market is organized by the Tollygunge Ramdhanu Social Welfare Society, which helps street children and tribal girls learn skills to become self-sufficient.
The founder, Mitrobinda Ghosh, started teaching children on the streets and now runs a center where they can learn and earn.
The money from the market helps buy materials for future projects and gives the girls some pocket money.
For many of these girls, this opportunity has changed their lives, allowing them to avoid early marriages and gain financial independence.
