Kolkata Police bans loose petrol, kerosene sales for 60 days
The police in Kolkata have made a new rule about fuel.
Fuel is what makes cars and motorbikes go.
Some people were selling fuel in open markets and on the roadside.
They were putting it in bottles, jars and plastic cans.
That can be very dangerous because fuel can catch fire easily.
The police want to stop fires and keep people safe.
So from August 20, fuel can only be sold at proper petrol pumps.
It must go straight into the fuel tank of a vehicle.
Anyone who breaks this rule can get in trouble with the police.
This rule will last for 60 days.
Kolkata Police has prohibited the loose sale of petrol, diesel and kerosene at open markets and roadside stalls.
The order takes effect from August 20 and remains in force for 60 days or until further orders.
Fuel must now be dispensed only through authorised dispensing units directly into vehicle fuel tanks.
Filling fuel into bottles, jars, plastic cans, drums and jerry cans is banned unless specifically permitted by law.
The order was issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, citing fire and public safety risks.
