Peru President Defends Meetings with Chinese Businessman
Peru's President Jose Jeri had meetings with a Chinese businessman named Zhihua Yang.
Some people are upset because Jeri didn't tell everyone about these meetings.
They think he might have done something wrong.
Jeri said he's sorry and that he was just talking about a special day for Peru and China.
He also said he was just buying some things at the businessman's store.
Some people in the government want to remove Jeri because of this.
Peru is going to have an election soon to choose a new president and other leaders.
Jeri says people are trying to make his government look bad to mess up the election.
Peruvian President Jose Jeri defended his undisclosed meetings with Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang.
Opposition legislators are pushing for Jeri's impeachment or censure over lack of transparency.
Jeri apologized for the meetings, stating they discussed Peruvian-Chinese ties and were not improper.
The meetings are being investigated by the public prosecutor’s office.
Peru is scheduled to hold elections on April 12 to choose a new president and legislators.
