Shyok Tunnel Inaugurated in Ladakh
The Shyok Tunnel is a new tunnel in Ladakh that was recently opened by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
It is 920 metres long and is part of a road that connects important areas near the border with China.
This tunnel is special because it will allow people and supplies to move easily even in bad weather, like heavy snow or extreme cold.
It will help the military move quickly if there is an emergency.
The tunnel is one of many new roads, bridges, and airfields being built in Ladakh to make the area stronger and more secure.
There is also another road being built as an alternative route, which is almost finished and will be ready next year.
The Indian government has spent a lot of money on these projects to improve the infrastructure in the region.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 920-metre Shyok Tunnel in eastern Ladakh, enhancing all-weather connectivity to the LAC.
The tunnel is part of the 255 km DS-DBO road, crucial for connecting Durbuk to Depsang Plains and DBO, which hosts a strategic airfield.
The Shyok Tunnel will reduce dependence on air maintenance and resolve logistical challenges for the Indian military in extreme weather conditions.
An alternate road to DBO is nearly completed and planned for operationalisation by next year, providing another route to the strategic area.
Since 2020, significant infrastructure development has taken place in Ladakh, including roads, bridges, airfields, and permanent defences to support troops near the LAC.
