Gujarat HC Orders Silicosis Compensation Policy Amendments
The Gujarat High Court told the state government to fix its rules for helping workers with Silicosis, a lung disease caused by dust.
The court wants the government to provide money and support to workers who have Silicosis, and their families.
This is because the government wasn't following the Supreme Court's rules from 2016 and 2017, which said to give these workers help.
The court also wants the government to make sure people can apply for help and receive it quickly.
The Principal Secretary of Labour and Employment will be making the changes, and report back soon.
Gujarat High Court directed the state to amend a March 2024 resolution regarding Silicosis-affected workers.
The court ordered the state to provide adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased due to Silicosis.
The ruling is in line with Supreme Court orders from 2016 and 2017 concerning compensation for Silicosis.
The court found delays in implementing the Supreme Court's directives, leading to lesser benefits.
The Principal Secretary of Labour and Employment must now address the issues and file an affidavit by August 29.
