Birla to Announce Panel to Investigate Judge Verma Charges
The Lok Sabha Speaker is planning to create a special group to look into accusations against a judge.
This follows a request from a group of MPs.
Another group of MPs in the other part of the government also made a similar request.
The group will have three people: high-level judges and a legal expert.
The person in charge of the other part of the government resigned for health reasons, possibly because of the political situation.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is expected to announce an inquiry committee regarding charges against Allahabad High Court Judge Yashwant Varma.
A notice signed by 152 MPs was submitted to Birla on July 21.
A similar notice from 63 opposition MPs was submitted to the Rajya Sabha on the same day.
A three-member committee will be formed, including either the Chief Justice of India or a Supreme Court judge, a high court chief justice, and a jurist.
The Rajya Sabha Chairman resigned, citing health concerns amid government discontent over receiving an opposition notice.
