Census 2027 to Include Migration Details
The Indian government has announced that the Census 2027 will include questions about how long people have lived in their current homes and why they moved there.
This information will be collected during a two-phase process.
The first phase, called House Listing and Housing Census, will take place from April to September 2026.
The second phase, Population Enumeration, will happen in February 2027 for most of the country, but in September 2026 for some snowy regions like Ladakh and parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
The entire process will be digital and will also include collecting data on caste.
The goal is to gather detailed information about migration and other demographic details.
Census 2027 will include questions on duration of stay and reasons for migration.
The census will be conducted in two phases: House Listing and Housing Census (April-September 2026) and Population Enumeration (February 2027).
