Mayiladuthurai Farmers Seek Drought Status, Rs 15,000 Per Acre Relief

Mayiladuthurai Farmers Seek Drought Status, Rs 15,000 Per Acre Relief

Farmers in Mayiladuthurai say their fields do not have enough water.

They are trying to grow Samba paddy, but the dry conditions are causing problems.

They say many farmers suffered large losses during the earlier Kuruvai season.

They also say Kuruvai farming was abandoned across lakhs of acres because water was not released from the Mettur reservoir.

The farmers want the government to declare the district drought-hit.

They are asking for Rs 15,000 for every acre of farmland.

They want this money to be provided without conditions.

They also want Tamil Nadu to obtain its share of Cauvery water so farming can continue.
