Jaipur exhibition brings modern art to Rajasthan's cultural landscape
A large art exhibition is taking place at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur.
It shows almost 50 artworks made by 35 artists.
Some artists are famous, while others are younger or less widely known.
The artworks include paintings, prints, sculptures and traditional-style miniatures.
One painting imagines Pablo Picasso eating Rajasthani food in a village.
People can look at the art and also buy it.
The centre hopes this will help artists earn money and encourage more people in Rajasthan to enjoy modern art.
It charges artists a 5 percent commission, which is lower than the commission mentioned for many galleries.
The exhibition also includes works by Maqbool Fida Husain and K G Subramanyan.
The Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur is displaying nearly 50 works by 35 artists, including Maqbool Fida Husain, K G Subramanyan, Akhilesh and younger artists.
The exhibition includes paintings, lithographs, etchings, serigraphs, miniatures, sculptures, installations and experimental contemporary works.
The Rajasthan International Centre is trying to develop a commercial market for modern and contemporary art in Rajasthan, where traditional crafts and miniature art are more established.
Artists receive a larger share of sales because the centre takes a 5 percent commission, compared with galleries that may charge 30 to 40 percent.
The exhibition includes Pablo Picasso-inspired imagery, a Rs 30 lakh sculpture and works from deceased artists sourced through families and students.
