Shanghai Teen Creates AI App to Remind Grandfather Meds
Ma Kai is a teenager from Shanghai who just finished high school.
He made a small computer program that can remind his 70‑year‑old grandfather to take his medicine.
The program uses a smart AI called MiniCPM, made by a company called ModelBest.
It can also check if the medicine is expired by looking at a photo.
Ma says the app is still very simple, but he hopes it will help his grandfather stay healthy.
He plans to go to university in September, so he wants the app to keep his grandfather safe while he’s away.
18‑year‑old Shanghai student Ma Kai built an AI reminder app for his 70‑year‑old grandfather.
The app uses MiniCPM, a large language model from Beijing‑based ModelBest, and can send medication reminders and warn of expired drugs.
Ma developed the code while preparing for university, planning to move in September.
The grandfather lives alone and has underlying medical conditions that require strict medication adherence.
Ma said the app is still in early stages, consisting of only a few lines of code.
