Netflix Licenses Starz's Power Franchise Globally
Netflix has made a big deal to show four TV shows from the Power series outside the U.S. and Canada.
These shows, which are very popular, will be available on Netflix starting in November.
Starz, the original network, will still show them in the U.S. and keep making new Power shows.
Netflix wants to add these shows to attract more viewers, especially after the success of another show called Nemesis, which was made by the same creator as the Power series.
Starz wants to keep making and owning its own shows, while Netflix wants to add popular shows to its platform.
Netflix has licensed four series of the Power franchise from Starz for international distribution, excluding the U.S. and Canada.
The series will be available on Netflix starting in November, with timing varying by market.
Starz will continue to show all Power series in the U.S. and produce new offshoots like Power: Origins and Power: Legacy.
The deal does not include Canada, where the Power franchise streams on Starz via its partnership with Bell Media.
Netflix's acquisition follows the success of Nemesis, a drama from Power creator Courtney Kemp, which logged 32.6 million views in its first month and a half.
