Taiwan to slow mobile internet in civil defence drills
Taiwan is going to slow down mobile internet speeds for 30 minutes during their annual civil defence drills in August.
This is to help people practice using different ways to communicate if there's an emergency, like a disaster or a potential invasion by China.
The slowdown will happen in 14 cities and counties in northern and central Taiwan, where about 70% of the population lives.
During this time, things like video calls, streaming, and social media images won't work.
But important services like ATMs, traffic signals, and emergency calls will still work.
The government wants people to think about backup options, like using landlines or walkie-talkies, and to plan how to contact family members and where to meet them.
They will also share guidance on how to respond through a publicity campaign.
