Mumbai Monsoon Withdraws Five Days Early, Second-Earliest Exit 25 Years

The weather department said the monsoon had left Mumbai on October 3.

That was five days earlier than usual.

It was the city’s second-earliest monsoon exit in 25 years.

Mumbai City received less rain than normal, but Mumbai Suburban received more.

Maharashtra as a whole had less rain than normal.

The weather department linked the rainfall shortfall to El Niño conditions approaching the Pacific region.

It said temperatures would gradually rise after the monsoon left.

Hot and humid weather was forecast for Mumbai over the next 48 hours.
